For Companies

Understand the impact that your company has on the planet.

Why do people matter when we have so many other ways to reduce our carbon footprint?

It’s people who influence regulation, it’s people who have purchasing power and people who drive organisations.

Many companies report on the emissions of their energy usage, chemical processes and buildings but they aren’t able to measure the individuals that make up their company. This is particularly relevant now, during the pandemic, when most employee’s homes have become their offices.

Empowerment and engagement

The Ecowalla tool empowers the people of your organisation to reduce their carbon footprint. It provides them with a starting point, recommendations and information to lower their impact and the ability to track their footprint as they make lifestyle changes.

One of the companies we’ve worked with used the Ecowalla tool to help their employees live the sustainable values of the company, which in turn led to higher satisfaction with company leadership.

Data gathering and setting a benchmark

Once a company has quantified the impact of their workforce, they can start to implement company-wide initiatives to lower this footprint and measure the impact. One example would be a remote working policy. The quiz could be used to calculate the current employee footprint from commuting to work. This data could be leveraged to create a business case for carbon reduction due to remote working without having to tediously calculate each person’s distance from the office and form of transport.

Public and tangible quantification

One of the companies we’ve worked with decided to publish the footprint of their team on their website. They also published tangible comparisons to other ways that this footprint could be emitted such as steaks, loads of washing and cups of coffee. By doing this, they were able to show how in touch and transparent they are with the impact of their company and its people.

What sustainability reporting standards does Ecowalla align with?

Green Gas Protocol Logo

Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol

According to the GHG Protocols international standards and frameworks for managing emissions, the reduction in emissions due to the use of the Ecowalla tool would fall into scope 3 emission reduction. Other than the business travel component, which is a specified category of scope 3, this reduction would be reported under the ‘other’ category.

One of the companies we’ve worked with chose to provide the Ecowalla platform to their clients as a value-added service. As scope 3 emissions are allowed to be reported by 2 or more organisations, this client is able to report on the reduction in CO2 that they achieved across all of their clients using the tool.

Sustainable Development Goals Logo

UN Sustainable Development Goals

Goal 12: Responsible consumption and production

Thumbs Up

What is the quiz based on? Are the results credible?

For emissions, we use what’s referred to as emission factors. These are international standards in each region for calculating the CO2 of a certain activity. The Ecowalla score is our IP. We created it because not everything can be quantified in CO2. For instance, having sustainable investments: It’s impossible to know what’s in every user’s portfolio. So we give users behavioural points for the fact that they invest green. The Ecowalla score is made up of weighted behaviour and emissions results.  This article explains the methodology.
